LG OLED trips the fuse on power-on

In short

If the breaker or RCD (residual-current device) trips when you power on the LG OLED, there is often a short in the PSU primary — not a “too sensitive” RCD.

Symptom: fuse or RCD trips on power-on

Typical: you turn the set on — and immediately or within seconds the circuit breaker or RCD in the consumer unit trips. Sometimes an on-board device fuse blows; from outside you mainly notice the circuit going dark.

Key check: does protection trip only when this LG OLED powers on? Then the set is suspect #1. If several loads trip together or without the TV, call an electrician for the installation.

Why often the primary and the PSU?

The PSU primary holds rectifiers, mains filters, protection parts and often the device fuse. A short there draws overcurrent or earth-fault current — the house fuse or RCD reacts before picture or sound appear.

Safety — never bypass RCD or fuse

Lethal and fire hazard. After a trip, do not re-energise the set. Never disable or bridge the RCD or fit a “stronger” fuse so the TV “works again”. The protector did its job.

Unplug the TV. If house wiring, outlet burn marks or unexplained RCD trips are involved: call an electrician. Primary-side PSU work is for specialists only; electrolytics can hold charge.

Vs overvoltage and storms
